Functional Safety Expert

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect, assess and test products for conformity assessment with international and national regulations with the end result being a Certificate, and/or Technical Report for the client.
- Prepare reports and documentation of customer products to the appropriate standards.
- Support sales and marketing with expertise as required including customer presentations.
- Test procedure generation.
- Correspond, orally, and in writing, with customers and if necessary, with Product Safety Agencies such as UL, CSA, and VDE with respect to Product Design Approaches for Safety.
- Communicate in a courteous and effective manner with internal and external customers in all circumstances including providing quotes, answering questions, relaying messages, and providing information with regard to standards, test procedures, to bring product into compliance with requirements. Maintain confidentiality of customers, products tested and appropriate internal information.
- Keep abreast of present and future Product Safety requirements, test procedures, instrumentation, technology and TÜV America Engineering service capabilities by internal training sessions, external seminars and reading of technical articles.
- Validation of clients’ requirements (may require site visits).
- Site inspections (may require site visits).
- Provide help to customers and staff during their safety test program.
- Involvement in Continuous Improvement projects.
- Work within the controls and constraints of an ISO 17025 Quality System.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical degree required
- 6 years of functional safety experience with Automotive, Rail, Stage, Machinery or similar electronic modules and/or systems engineering
- Design/Development of safety-critical systems/components (ISO26262-X; ISO 61508-X, ISO 13849-1/2)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Good communication skills and basic project management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues local and at remote sites
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Strong technical leadership skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment Motivation, initiative, and commitment, to self-improvement.

- Flexibility and willingness to travel, where and when required.
