Project Engineering Technician
The Project Engineering Technician tests and inspects playground equipment and playground surfacing products for conformity assessment with both domestic and international regulations. The end result being a test report for the customer, and/or a certificate of conformance.
Responsibilities:
- Provides in-house, and annual in-plant field inspections for various certification programs and related testing of products for certification programs Field audits require extensive travel domestically and internationally.
- Responsible for updating client visitation scheduling, tracking, and arranging travel.
- Travel to and perform on-site quality system and technical assessment of mechanical testing, test personnel, and calibration equipment. Manage clients’ projects, including gathering pretest information, answering any questions that our customers may have regarding upcoming projects, and issuing work to any sub-contractors involved.
- Conducts various testing for clients.
- Maintain accurate schedule of laboratory activities.
- Maintain records, Track and control of customer test samples per Company procedures.
- Conduct special certification test projects.
- Communicate in a courteous and effective manner with internal and external customers in all circumstances including answering questions, relaying messages, and providing information regarding standards, test procedures, technical recommendations for compliance, and specific certification requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of customers, products tested, and appropriate internal information.
- Maintain a professional and a safe laboratory environment in accordance with ISO 17025.
- Maintain proficiency with the latest lab and testing procedures
- Maintain proficient knowledge of proper operational procedures of test equipment including Impact attenuation equipment for use both in the laboratory as well as in the field, various probes and measuring devices specific to evaluation of playground equipment and surfacing product(s).
- Maintain equipment calibrations at required intervals and the proper records per Company procedures.
- Perform testing per requirements set out in various domestic and international Standards and Test Procedures including review of test plans and specifications prior to test.
- Tracks and records, accurately and completely, the time, test equipment, and any problems or other activities required to complete each test. Communicates test progress to Customers and Project Engineering staff providing updates on testing progress as required.
- Issue of corrective action notices, and systematic review of responses from clients.
- Provide input on new equipment selection and purchase.
- Development of test fixtures as required in support of testing activities.
- Attendance and participation within ASTM and industry related committee meetings and seminars.
Qualification
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's degree within mechanical discipline or equivalent experience, preferred.
- Experience within a quality auditor role is beneficial.
Specific Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong written and oral communications skills are essential and the ability to work effectively as a team player is essential.
- Functioning knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and electronic mail.
- Technical, detail oriented and Quality assurance systems exposure.
- Experience in service environment is helpful, as is exposure to project management.
- The ability to manage time effectively and to plan, organize and prioritize tasks is critical.
- Customer service oriented.
- Strong written and oral communications skills are essential and the ability to work effectively as a team player is critical.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally required up to 30-40%.
