Position Summary:

TÜV SÜD America’s ENV & BAT Technical Manager will support the current operations and sales team in North America. This position is a high-visibility position with significant customer interaction, with key focus on maintaining the customer base, ensure customer trust in TÜV SÜD’s technical leadership, and help to grow the technical offerings and complementary revenue associated with the business.

This position will develop and drive processes, efficiency and culture into the TÜV SÜD ENV/BAT labs to ensure customers receive world-class testing, communication and experience.

Responsibilities: 

- Support customer meetings for environmental, battery and other lab-specific topics related to sales opportunities for the Transportation business line.

- Analyze customer specifications for suitability and prepare test guidelines, including equipment purchases and test protocols necessary to implement those specifications.

- Analyze customer test plans and prepare internal cost documents to support these test plans, working with the sales account executives in developing an appropriate quotation that meets TÜV SÜD’s business goals.

- Collaborate with other labs (ex/ New Brighton MN, Plymouth MI) in common customer or technical areas.

- Support the Business Line Director with recommendations on new technical directions, based on any or all of the following: market research, voice of customer, industry trade shows and literature, industry associations, etc.

- Engage in the Risk Assessment process and ensure the lab and personnel are acting and working in a safe and effective manner

- Innovate existing and develop new testing techniques and equipment

- Keep abreast of present and future Product requirements, test procedures, instrumentation, technology and TÜV SÜD Engineering service capabilities by internal training sessions, external seminars and reading of technical articles.

- Support customer meetings, inquiries, testing, etc as needed to support business development of the region.

- Work with the ENV/BAT lab managers and staff on operational issues to support set-ups, test equipment needs, recommended test paths, etc. In other words, serve as a technical resource for the labs and occasionally perform testing or support ongoing testing in the labs.

- Work with Business Line Director on future growth plans, market needs, technical directions, etc

- Sit on internal global TÜV SÜD TRN committees, work groups, etc as required or requested

- Maintain relationships with the global TRN technical team

- Maintain knowledge of current and potential customer technical developments, future plans and how TÜV SÜD TRN group can support.

- Any and all other items that are deemed necessary by the TRN BL Director.

Qualification

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), or equivalent operational experience in the environmental and battery testing market.

- Well-versed in the technical/engineering details of HV cell, module and pack battery testing and equipment, 3-5 years minimum is preferred.

- Minimum of 5 years direct experience working with Automotive customers; other transportation industries a plus (medium/heavy truck, off-road, construction, agriculture, marine, aero, etc)

- Experience in stationary energy storage a plus.

- Experience in EVSE a plus.

- Minimum 5 years of operational experience in a lab environment.

- Experience in testing and technical development (software and hardware)

- Ability to work well under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines

- Demonstrated experience in informal, ad hoc, or formal leadership positions ,including the ability to grow and develop teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Good communication skills, customer focus, work well in both an individual and a team environment, take direction positively, and contribute to the group.

- Experience in a service environment and/or project management.

- Proven organizational skills, strong communication, customer-driven.

- Computer literate in Microsoft Office products: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

- Demonstrated leadership experience.

- Aggressive attitude toward growth and improvement.

- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently both independently and in a team environment.

- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Self-starter with a positive outlook and motivated attitude.
