Position Summary:

The role of the Senior Building Performance Manager is focused on developing advanced energy models for a variety of building types (commercial real estate, industrial, etc.) using simulation software, analyzing results, proposing innovative energy efficiency strategies, and collaborating closely with design teams to achieve high-performance buildings. This role is also responsible for developing and implementing energy modeling strategies, managing projects, and ensuring high-quality deliverables related to building performance and energy simulation.

Responsibilities:

- Project Management & Execution

- Independently lead and perform billable project work (remotely and on-site) for a variety of clients with project types such as building performance modelling (LEED, code compliance, energy audits, etc), Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments (WBLCA), New Construction Commissioning and complex models for Decarbonization Assessments for new and existing buildings.

- Lead new construction project types from schematic design through operations via detailed energy modeling and commissioning project management expertise.

- Lead existing building projects with deep retrofits, adaptive reuse and repositioning project types via detailed energy modeling analysis and design development expertise.

- Collect and analyze data related to energy systems, energy usage, water efficiency, waste management, and other sustainability metrics and prepare clear and concise written reports that convey technical information, understanding of the client’s needs and objectives and outcomes aligned with those objectives.

- Regularly consult with applicable project stakeholders, such as owners, owner’s representatives, property managers, building engineers, architects, contractors, and subcontractors, to collect and access information, as well as provide feedback and/or guidance.

- Execute quality control reviews of project deliverables and/or other materials prepared by Engineering Department staff, as needed.

Team Management

- Partner with HR Department to oversee onboarding and offboarding of Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department employees to ensure that onboarding plans are consistently and thoroughly defined, communicated, and executed; and all offboarding tasks are identified, tracked, and completed.

- Promote innovation through new ideas and products in sustainability, inspire team members to produce new ideas for processes and revenue streams, and ensure ideas are captured and reported in appropriate Leadership Meetings.

- Manage the successful execution of quarterly goal status checks, mid-year reviews and annual reviews for Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department employees.

- Develop and execute training plans for Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department employees that encompass operational, technical and marketplace learning objectives, and support growth in both technical competency and operational excellence.

- Department Management

- Proactively research, test, recommend and/or train on AI, scripting and other advanced technical methods which create operational efficiency for the Engineering Team, drive and/or enable deliverable improvements and/or provide new potential avenues for expanded services / solutions.

- Leadership

- Serve as a technical resource for Sales, Marketing, Sustainability, ESG and Engineering Departments.

- Provide referrals and/or leads to the Sales Department via standard tools and methods, as well as contribute to the sales process as requested/necessary (scope and/or proposal development, requirements review, sales meetings, etc.).

- Partner with the Department Director to define areas of success and friction for department interoperability, and work to identify and implement solutions that expand successes and mitigate challenges.

- Partner with HR Department to address employee issues, staffing change management, and provide recommendations and/or feedback on HR tools, policies, and procedures.

- Participate in strategic planning activities and the development of growth models.

Professional Development: 

- Complete timesheets, management check-ins, and expense reports in a timely manner.

- Participate in ASHRAE, IBPSA and/or other industry association’s opportunities, and leverage mentorship relationships and learning opportunities with more senior team members within and outside your department.

The anticipated annual base pay range for this full-time position is $100,000-$120,000. Actual base pay will be determined based on various factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target, subject to eligibility and other requirements. Qualification

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering 

- 7+ years of experience delivering complex energy models and commissioning for commercial real estate clients

- A Professional Engineering license is required, preferably in the State of New York.

- Additional accreditations are encouraged (BEMP, BESA, CEMA, LEED AP, etc).

- 30+ energy simulation projects managed in accordance with ASHRAE 90.1 standards, LEED and/or local energy code compliance.

- HVAC systems experience.

- Experience with Building Systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS).

- Proven experience in new construction commissioning for industrial and/or commercial buildings.

- Proven experience in energy audits for industrial and/or commercial buildings.

- Experience with building performance modelling for rating systems such as LEED and BREEAM.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical specifications.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts.

- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage project documentation throughout its lifecycle.

- Proficiency in software such as REVIT, AutoCAD, OneClick LCA and energy simulation tools like IES VE and eQuest.

- 10+ IESVE models completed through final project delivery (case studies available upon request)

- 20+ eQuest models competed through final project delivery (case studies available upon request).

- Ability to analyze data, evaluate outcomes, and recommend actions.

- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
